Arrogance
Arrogance, another diptych, orchestrates a dialogue between ambition and humility, permanence and ephemerality. It is a meditation on the human pursuit of legacy.
Bold gestural marks in acrylic and marker surge across each panel, their energy both assertive and searching. These strokes, at times defiant, at times vulnerable, evoke the restless striving of ego: the desire to inscribe one’s presence upon the world. Interwoven with these gestures, delicate applications of gold leaf shimmer—an ancient symbol of immortality and transcendence. The gold, both fragile and enduring, becomes a metaphor for the elusive nature of legacy: radiant, yet ever at risk of fading.
The diptych format itself embodies duality—the tension between self and other, ambition and reflection. The panels converse across the divide, suggesting that true permanence is found not in solitary assertion, but in the interplay of voices and histories.
This work is an inheritable artifact, a testament to the enduring human impulse to be remembered. Arrogance invites its steward to contemplate their own place in the continuum of culture, offering not just a visual experience, but a legacy—an opportunity to participate in the ongoing pursuit of cultural eternity.
